The Pillar of Media

Everyone with a message needs a channel to voice it out. Irrespective of the obstacles they may be facing, they deem it a responsibility to let their message reach its targeted audience. In this era of technology, the impact of social media on the youth can never be overemphasized. In a survey of teens, about 91% of them have access to smartphones. Out of these, more than 50% of them are on a social media platform (Link to survey). Moreover, the media industry has seen a lot of monetization, with considerable owners of media outlets amongst the richest in the world (eg. Mark Zuckerberg). A lot of people spend time on social media than they spend on their personal stuff.

When the media started its development face, they church took the back stage and condemned its development. A creation by man through the mind God has given him, the church did not seize the opportunity to capture it for Christ, but have waited for the world to control what comes on the social media. In recent times, posting messages on Christ has been branded inappropriate. We should expect nothing less until we rise up from our sleep and shambles and act.

Recent developments have been made by Christians to engage in the media industry with television and radio stations. Coming up with various activities to engage the believers and unbelievers alike, the competition from the other TV stations overshadows them from coming out. However, I begin to question the “excellence” in the activities of the stations. What would make me watch a Christian network when their services are not up to standard. Some of us would watch irrespective of the quality, but we need to understand that a standard has been set by the world, and excellence demands that we define the new standard through quality services with the agenda of possessing the media.

God places priority on his channel of communication. His media representation is always of importance to His Kingdom. In the Old Testament, God only spoke through Prophets, who were men and women trained and empowered by God to speak forth His message to the people. In these last days where a lot of channels are coming up, He has chosen one media outlet. Who is it?

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.

Hebrews chapter 1 verses 1 to 2.

God’s official minister for communication or press Secretary is CHRIST. However, the information needs to go through various media outlets. You are the outlet that Christ sends his message through. That is why He said:

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

2 Corinthians chapter 5 verse 20 (NIV)

We need to possess the gates of the media. God is still in the business of letting the knowledge of His will be known to the ends of the world. That is why He is calling you to possess the gates of the media. For those of us with the inner conviction to work in the media industry, respond to it as your office of calling. That is God’s work of service He has equipped you for. In our little ways, let’s use our social media handles to spread the love of Christ and let Christ be seen through us.

Thank you Father for the word you have given unto us today. We appreciate you for your Grace that is over our lives. We pray that you will enlighten the eyes of our understanding to know the hope of our calling. We pray for the grace to do your bidding, now and forever more. This and many other blessings we ask in the name of Jesus. AMEN.
