The Pillar of religion

The world and its systems are being controlled by the predominant religious systems. Although it has been relegated to its own domain, its influence on the decisions and lives of people can never be underestimated. Through the enthusiasm for the teachings from many religious sects, lots of community developments as well as catastrophes have occured. Lucius Annaeus Seneca, who was a Roman Stoic philosopher and statesman, once said and I quote, “Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false and by rulers as useful”1.

In the ministry of Christ, He always has a confrontation with the religious leaders. His quest to save that which was lost, He had to confront the teachings and the lifestyle of the Pharisees and Sadducees. To Him, they were a critical part of the socio-cultural development of nation, and as such their life should reflect the laws that the Lord has commanded them.

In recent days, secularism has been the order of the day. In this generation, various efforts are being made to project man as the god of himself. Through the advancement of science and technology, many have been led away from the true God unto the things of this world, an agenda that is fuelled by the Kingdom of darkness. But Paul explain that when Christ ascended into heaven, He had the plan of regaining the entire systems of the world and make it His. He then decided to give gifts to men. These gifts are men whose sole aim is to equip the saints for the works of service. This is what Paul says:

This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.”… It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,…

Ephesians 4:8,11 (NIV)

Knowing very much the influence of the Church on the society, Jesus gave “religious” leaders as gifts for men. Jesus was not interested in the “quantity” of these men, but the “quality” of them. Jesus was not just interested in the amount of people He was sending out, but by how much prepared they would be when they have to be sent out.

Jesus is not interested in the quantity of people He sends out, but their quality o represent Him and His purposes.

Christ is still in the business of raising various men and women who will take up the religious sector for the Lord Jesus Christ. Not gaining any glory for themselves, their sole aim will be to equip the saints for the various assignments that God has given them and together win the world over to Him. Just as Martin Luther , George Whitefield, etc. were raised in their generation, so God is raising men to possess this pillar of the kingdom. Are you available for God to use?

Thank you Father for your word that I have heard today. I thank you for the peace that you keep filling my heart with. I pray that may you break and mould me until I become a worthy vessel for your use. I ask this and many other blessings in the name of Christ our Lord.
