Some weeks ago, we started discussing the prerequisites for having abundance. The first point we said was that you need to identify your needs and not wants. You can read the post here. Today we will move to the second point.
2. Identify your resources
Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”
2 Kings 4:2 (NIV)
To have abundance, you need to be able to ascertain all your resources. You need to find out what you have and how you can use them to get the abundance. In our scripture today, the woman was asked what she had, and she said she had nothing but a jar of oil. She identified her resources and that led to the multiplication.
There are other scriptures in the Bible that highlights the importance of identifying your resources. Jesus, when he was about to feed the five thousand men (excluding women and children) asked Philip where they can get bread to feed the people? Both Philip and Andrew identified the resources (Money and five loaves of bread and two fishes), howbeit they deemed it insufficient for the task at hand (John 6:1-10).
God never multiplies emptiness. You need to identify the resources you have to be able to enjoy the abundance that God has in stock for you. Who builds a house without first sitting to count the cost (Luke 14:28-33, NASB).
Prayer
Thank you Father for your Spirit that is in us. I appreciate your love for me and your provisions made available unto me. I pray that you will help me identify the resources you have made available to me in Jesus name.
