Prerequisites for abundance (Part 7)

The social media culture has made us quick tweeters, facebookers, etc. We are very quick to write whatever thing we have been told to do on the social media for our friends to read, comment, like or dislike. Every minute of our 24 hours is written on the tabloids for the world to read and comment on. Don’t get me wrong! I am on facebook, instagram, twitter, whatsApp and I do post and read updates on these handles. But sometimes we need to be quiet for a while on some of the things that are happening around and to us.

This leads us to the seventh prerequisite for abundance. But before we move on, have you had the chance to read the first six parts. If not, these are the links to the six parts: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

7. Shut the door with those in your close circles (V 4a)

Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons.

The widow was instructed by the prophet Elisha to go into her room and shut the door behind her and her sons. Note that it was not everyone she borrowed the vessels from that should have been part of this outpouring of oil experience. They were neighbors that she needed to get the capacity for her abundance, but not necessarily partakers of the abundance spree.

I also love this passage of the Bible from 2 Kings 4:18 -37, and I think you should read it too. When the shunamite woman’s son died, she told everybody it was well until she met the prophet. She even told the apprentice to the prophet that it was well. So many of us would have announced what we are experiencing to the entire world even before God would hear us talk to Him.

A lot of us have missed our miracles because of the people we invited into our closed circles and shared intimate stuff with. They discouraged us, made us feel unworthy and disregarded the instruction that God had given unto us. Paying heed to the voices from them, we have lost focus and faith to receive the abundance God had prepared for us.

Beloved, be quiet for a while. Learn to keep your breakthrough away from the social media and share the testimony in the due time to the glory of God. Don’t be in a rush to spill out your beans. It’s your set time for your miracle, so shut your doors and wait upon the Lord.

Prayer

I thank you Father for Your word I have heard today. I am grateful for the encouragement You bless my day with. I pray that you will grant me the grace to remain silent when I have to. Help me make wise decisions and wait upon you in all circumstances. This and many other blessings I ask in the name of Christ my Lord. AMEN!

Prerequisites of abundance (Part 6)

I remember a story I overhead someone share some time ago. Benjamin was a final year student in a high school. He was always the best in a class of about thirty students. He had maintained his position as the best student for a long time. However, after sitting for their final exams, Abigail topped the whole district as the overall best student to the amazement of the entire school. Abigail was not the kind of person you would book as the cleverest or smartest. She has been slow at learning and understanding the lessons that she had been taught. Her parents had tried various learning disability therapies for her, but to no avail. Then one day, she heard a sermon and the Pastor said, “Have a high expectation, do not give up”. From that moment, she began developing the attitude and mental capacity to get to her dream of becoming a cardiologist. Gradually, she picked up with the help of various online tools. Her parents nor teachers could not see the progress because they had lost hope for to become any better, until the final exams revealed what she had been doing.

6. Have high expectations

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

This story brings us to the sixth prerequisite for abundance: we need to have high expectations for what God can do for us. God overdoes what we can think or imagine. That is to mean that if we have the ability to think or perceive something, God can do exceedingly abundantly more than what we have been able to think or imagine. So what should stop of from having high expectations?

The prophet told the woman to go and collect empty vessels, but not a few. Your ability to collect thousands of them determines how much you would get from selling the oil. The amount of “abundance” was dependent on how much empty vessels she could get.

We need to trust God to help us get through the process. In our moment of need, God is there to help us us. Keep that mental agility that God is there to help you through. Have high expectations, for our God is willing and able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can think or imagine. He will do it for you!

Prayer

Thank you Lord for Your word that I have heard today. Thank you that you are with me and helping me through life’s challenges. I am eternally grateful unto you. I pray that you will grant me the grace to keep the bigger picture in mind and not lose faith in what you are doing in my life. This and many other blessings I ask in the name of Christ our Lord. AMEN!

To be able to enjoy this exceeding and abundant provision, you must have a relationship with Christ. He is the source of all of the provisions, and remember that God does the exceedingly and abundantly according to the power that is at work within you. What power is in you? Today I suggest the Holy Spirit for you, but you cannot have Him without receiving Christ as your Lord and savior. If you want to do so, say these words after me:

I thank you Father for sending Your Son Christ Jesus to die for me. I believe that Christ died for my sins, was buried and resurrected that I may have eternal life and a relationship with You. Prerequisites of Abundance (Part 5)

Tony set off for a job interview at a prestigious bank. Running late for the meeting, he picked a taxi so he could reach early. In the taxi, he met an old man who recalled him from a previous encounter they had, but the old man kept quiet. Getting off in front of the bank, he hurriedly paid off the driver with a little tip and sped off into the hall. Upon reaching the front desk, he was informed by the secretary that his time slot was past. Heartbroken by such a dispiriting experience, he was met by the security man at the entrance with a gasping smile. Tony, intrigued by such encounter, sheepishly greeted the security man. He then held Tony’s hand tightly and kept thanking him for his help during his days in the shelter. After some few minutes of conversation, the security man led him to the CEO and made recommendations about the guy and why he should be given the chance for the appointment. Fast forward, Tony got the job.

5. Build relationships

This story in our introduction highlights the importance of neighbors and relationships. We do not live in an island, independent of everyone else. Therefore it is expedient that we build relationships and networks that can help us achieve the purpose that God has given to us.

When the widow went to see Elisha, he asked her to go to her neighbors and borrow vessels. Think for a minute, what would have happened if the women had a straining relationship with her neighbors? What if she had always picked quarrels with her friends, ignored them in their times of need and even refused to have fellowship with them by attending their parties and funerals? It may seem trivial, you may say, but it is in times of need that you will appreciate the gift of relationships.

Moreover, you do not have the entire knowledge in the world. You would have to pick some wisdom nuggets from a few people. You could read about them, but establishing relationships with them will serve as a critical tool to drawing deeper in depth knowledge that you could receive from afar. Let’s learn to build relationships. How do you start, you may ask? Start by reading this book, “How to win friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie.

Prayer

I thank you Father for your word that I have heard today. I thank you for your grace that is more than sufficient unto me. I pray that you will grant me the grace to excel at building friendships and connections. I thank you for the grace to do better at keeping friendships to fulfil your purpose and pleasure. Prerequisite for abundance (Part 4)

The series is getting interesting by the day. I do hope you have read the first three parts: Part One, part two and part three. We have been discussing some essential elements to take note if you want to see abundance amidst the scarcity you have. Many a times we want our situations to change in a minute or second. We quickly want to look out for help from man. To our utmost surprise, the people who promised us are amongst the first to disappoint us. Sincerely, some of them do have genuine reasons why they cannot help you, and it’s no fault of them. After you have identified your needs and not your wants, identified your resources and willing to obey the instructions, you then need to build capacity to sustain the abundance.

4. Borrow more vessels

As I was writing this booster, I kept wondering why Elisha asked the woman to borrow empty vessels and not jars of oil. I think it was because the women needed capacity to sustain the abundance that is about to come to her.

Before God releases his blessings, He prepares you to develop the capacity to sustain the blessing that is about to come. Moreover, the amount of vessels you can borrow determines how much abundance of oil you can get. Many of us are quick to borrow jars of oil and this leads us to much poverty. We are quick to borrow money and other material resources to get what we need, instead of developing the capacity to sustain the abundance that is about to get to you. Don’t get me wrong, there are some instances that you may be directed to borrow some of these resources, it is God that works in His own ways. However, God always develops our capacity to sustain the abundance He is about to send out way.

You have been seeking to start a company with the little money you have. You may be struggling to sustain the company that you just started. It may even be that you are currently struggling with your academics and your grades seem to be poorer than expected. You eagerly yearn to see growth in your life. Then it’s time for you to build capacity to host that increase. Start by investing your time into studying and reading about what can help you host that abundance. Get in touch with other people who can help you achieve the vision you need. God has provided us with these helps to prepare us to host the abundance He is sending our way.

Prayer

I thank you very much for your word that I have heard today. Thank you for the abundance you are sending my way. I pray that You will help me build the capacity to host the abundance you are sending my way. I subject my will and way to Yours. Come and have Your own way in my life. Prerequisite for Abundance (Part 3)

God richly bless you for joining us in our series. We do hope that you are being blessed. We all face some inadequacies one moment in our lives. In such moments, hope seems to be lost and depression and despair sets in. I must admit that you are not the only in a sort of rollacosta in your life. We all have our share of turmoils, but in different degrees and times. What we go through as believers is in proportion to the grace that God has made available unto us (1 Corinthians 10:13).

We have looked at two prerequisites for abundance. You must identify your needs and not wants and also identify the resources that you have. Today we will move forward to the third prerequisite of abundance.

3. Obey the directions

Every multiplication requires directions to follow. These directions can be from the scripture, the Holy Spirit or through any vessel sent by God. The directions come to align you in the right knowledge and wisdom that can get you to the already prepared state God has for you. The directions would never ask you to do anything contrary to the instructions of God and what He says in His word.

Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”

The instructions you may receive will not make sense to the human. Logically, it will defy all the human reasonings and calculations. In such times, God still releases such instructions for us to walk in faith and see His hand. Although you have your last flour and oil, he may instruct you to bake bread for His servant and you will never experience shortage. Really? I’m going to gather sticks and prepare the last mean for my son and I to have our last supper, and here you are asking me to give that last meal (Ref: 1 Kings 17:8-16). It seems harsh to tell a people who are working hard to build their houses after they have been in exile to bring the their tithe (a tenth of what they earn) and offerings to your house so that they shall be abundance of food there (Malachi 1 -3).

However, the promise attached becomes a reality when the instruction is followed. No matter how difficult it is, the Lord shall still fulfil His word that He has sent to you if you can only obey the instruction. Start by being faithful in your tithe and offerings, and pa heed to his instructions to help the poor and the needy. Being selfless to do God’s will sets you up for abundance.

Prerequisite for abundance (Part 2)

Some weeks ago, we started discussing the prerequisites for having abundance. The first point we said was that you need to identify your needs and not wants. You can read the post here. Today we will move to the second point.

2. Identify your resources

Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”

To have abundance, you need to be able to ascertain all your resources. You need to find out what you have and how you can use them to get the abundance. In our scripture today, the woman was asked what she had, and she said she had nothing but a jar of oil. She identified her resources and that led to the multiplication.

There are other scriptures in the Bible that highlights the importance of identifying your resources. Jesus, when he was about to feed the five thousand men (excluding women and children) asked Philip where they can get bread to feed the people? Both Philip and Andrew identified the resources (Money and five loaves of bread and two fishes), howbeit they deemed it insufficient for the task at hand (John 6:1-10).

God never multiplies emptiness. You need to identify the resources you have to be able to enjoy the abundance that God has in stock for you. Who builds a house without first sitting to count the cost (Luke 14:28-33, NASB).

Prayer

Thank you Father for your Spirit that is in us. I appreciate your love for me and your provisions made available unto me. I pray that you will help me identify the resources you have made available to me in Jesus name.

Prerequisites for Abundance

There are seasons in a man’s life where scarcity becomes the story of his life. It may be due to his own decision or may not be a fault of his. Irrespective of how things may look like, the obvious is the scarcity and need around. The scarcity is not limited to food, water or money. It could be anything you need, but are struggling to have access to. It is that thing that makes you worry and seek solutions from all the sources you would no try, under normal circumstances.

Prerequisites for Abundance

As I read this passage of the Bible today, I really learnt a few things about the prerequisites to see abundance in your life. Take time to read 2 Kings 4: 1-12 as I share with you some of the things I learnt:

A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”

  1. Identify your need and not wants

It is your needs that define your scarcity and not mere wants. A need is something you need to survive; a want is something you desire but you can live without it. Understand that God supplies our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Phillipians 4:19). In fact, He knows what you need even before you ask them (Matthew 6:8).

This teaches us to learn to set priorities, starting with what you need to what you want. With what you have at the moment, focus on the needs and you will gradually see there will enough left over. You cannot see the abundance if you have not clearly stated your priorities. If your 24 hours in a day is not enough for you, try a to-do list by stating the needed items first and the want-to-do ones later. You will then notice that you have more than enough time to do the needful and have excess for other things.

It is my prayer that God will grant us the grace to focus on the needful and through that refocus on what God is calling us to do. God bless you and remain a blessing. AMEN!

The pillar of science and technology

Many inventions in recent years has emphasized the importance of science and technology. Transportation, health, communication, agriculture has been improved because men and women have been gifted with the grace to make these inventions. Just as we have noted, every invention has its purpose to serve, but there is an underlying Kingdom that it seeks to get the attention of. Having left the pillar of science and technology unattended to as a church, many have turned their attention to self as the God of man. This has led to secularism and may have lost their faith in God.

The church cannot separate itself from Science and Technology because it is a culture that influences the growth of the church. Ranging from the musical instruments, lighting system, electricity, through to the various payment options for tithes and offerings, the church relies on science and technology. As Christians, we need the airplane to travel from one country to another, we need cars to travel by land, we need mobile phones to communicate with other people, amongst many other things.

It is therefore important that we encourage ourselves to be active participants of the development of science and technology. For we have been called for the works of ministry, and we need to be agents of transformation. As others are using science to disprove the existence of God and technology to form the basis of their agenda of secularism, we can use the science and technology to advance the knowledge of God. For this is what God says:

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

Habakkuk 2:14 (NIV)

Let us rise up and take advantage of the wisdom and the spirit of excellence that God gives unto us to make Him known in this world. Let us create that atmosphere for the world to want to know the God we serve. For are Christ ambassadors, and He is making a public appeal through us to the world. Rise up and be a great ambassador in the pillar of science and technology.

Thank you Father for Your Spirit and power that you have made available unto us. I pray that you will continually order my steps to fulfil your purpose on Earth. AMEN!

The Pillar of religion

The world and its systems are being controlled by the predominant religious systems. Although it has been relegated to its own domain, its influence on the decisions and lives of people can never be underestimated. Through the enthusiasm for the teachings from many religious sects, lots of community developments as well as catastrophes have occured. Lucius Annaeus Seneca, who was a Roman Stoic philosopher and statesman, once said and I quote, “Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false and by rulers as useful”1.

In the ministry of Christ, He always has a confrontation with the religious leaders. His quest to save that which was lost, He had to confront the teachings and the lifestyle of the Pharisees and Sadducees. To Him, they were a critical part of the socio-cultural development of nation, and as such their life should reflect the laws that the Lord has commanded them.

In recent days, secularism has been the order of the day. In this generation, various efforts are being made to project man as the god of himself. Through the advancement of science and technology, many have been led away from the true God unto the things of this world, an agenda that is fuelled by the Kingdom of darkness. But Paul explain that when Christ ascended into heaven, He had the plan of regaining the entire systems of the world and make it His. He then decided to give gifts to men. These gifts are men whose sole aim is to equip the saints for the works of service. This is what Paul says:

This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.”… It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,…

Ephesians 4:8,11 (NIV)

Knowing very much the influence of the Church on the society, Jesus gave “religious” leaders as gifts for men. Jesus was not interested in the “quantity” of these men, but the “quality” of them. Jesus was not just interested in the amount of people He was sending out, but by how much prepared they would be when they have to be sent out.

Jesus is not interested in the quantity of people He sends out, but their quality o represent Him and His purposes.

Christ is still in the business of raising various men and women who will take up the religious sector for the Lord Jesus Christ. Not gaining any glory for themselves, their sole aim will be to equip the saints for the various assignments that God has given them and together win the world over to Him. Just as Martin Luther , George Whitefield, etc. were raised in their generation, so God is raising men to possess this pillar of the kingdom. Are you available for God to use?

The Pillar of Arts and Entertainment

The increase of media outlets and advancements in technology has advanced the scope and impact of the art and entertainment industry. Movies and music of various genres are every now and then released, and the actors and the other important contributors in the industry have become centres of attraction, impacting and influencing their viewers in enormous ways. Various media outlets that air these movies and music are part of the richest companies in the world, having tremendous views and likes.

I must add sports to the arts and entertainment. Ranging from soccer, football, tennis, handball, volleyball, amongst many others, young men and women spend time either engaging in the sports as players or as spectators. The players and teams who have excelled in their gifts receive such great audience, evident through their social media handle followers. For example, Cristiano Ronaldo, the Juventus and Portugal forward has over 125 million likes on his official facebook page, 261 million followers on Instagram and 91 million followers on Twitter1. Serena Williams, a tennis player has over 12 million followers on Instagram2 and over 10 million followers on Twitter3. Imagine the impact a message carried by these people will carry to these people. As a result, corporate and private companies like to associate themselves with them and have them as their brand ambassadors.

That begs the question of “Is God interested in the arts and entertainment Industry?“. Let me answer that question by stating that whatever we see now, is a manifestation of what God had created. God created man in His image with the inherent abilities to carry forth everything He gave unto man. However, some of them have been corrupted by the devil to spread forth his evil agenda and cause many to dwindle from the purpose of God for them. He created the devil as an archangel with music capabilities. The Bible says that:

… The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes

Was prepared for you on the day you were created.

As such, God was interested in arts and entertainment before creation of man. Having created man in His image and after His likeness, man has that deeper like for arts and entertainment. Man was created with the potential to give and enjoy entertainment. Throughout scripture, we see the varied forms of praise and dance (with varied capabilities to play instruments) that God’s people gave unto Him. Look at what David says in Psalms 150:

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.

With this great potential to get the attention of man, the devil has seized that opportunity to use many men and women in this arena to promote His agenda. Just as with pride He was cast away from the presence of God, so in these days He blinds the eyes of men and women to acknowledge the source of their abilities. In doing so, he has diverted the glory that is due God unto Himself. Through songs and movies, the agenda of the enemy has been projected and is sending many people to hell.

I must admit that there are several Christian movies and music out there. striving to compete with the growing industry that propagates the agenda of the devil, they have broken through with little resources and producers to leave a mark for others to follow. Beckoning on a new generation who understands the call of God to possess this arena, they have labored through their challenges to create awareness of God’s agena and have also carried forth the message of God and the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ far.

However, God is still in the business of raising men and women built up with the truth to capture this pillar. Having been built up with the truth, they shall use their abilities to promote the message of the Kingdom of God, and through their godly living inspire a lot more others to live for Christ. They will not be moved by the number of followers, but will continually acknowledge that it is Grace that has made them who they are. God does not hate arts and entertainment, so we should avail ourselves for God to use in that field if we have been called there.

Thank you Father for your word I have read today. I appreciate your love for me and the gifts and talents you have given unto me. I pray that you will grant me the grace to excel at the assignment you have given unto me. These and many other blessings I ask in the name of Christ. AMEN!!!
